I'm sure you are reading this because you have recently felt like something is missing. As if you've been called to look for something beyond yourself and to look more into spirituality, metaphysical, or mystical topics such as moon phases, crystals, astrology, tarot, magick, or maybe something else. Tell me in the comments where you are on your journey and what it is you're looking for!
Whatever it may be, I'm sure it's all very new and may even feel a little scary. Especially if you come from a strong religious background where you've been raised to fear what you don't know. This is understandable, but everything here is meant only to help you on your journey of growth. You can have a deep faith in religion and still be spiritual. You can have no religion at all and still be spiritual. Or you may fall somewhere in between, but don't worry you have an entire community to help you and support you no matter where you might fall on that spectrum.
When you get started on your spiritual journey, it can be overwhelming, but it can also be profound and transformative. With an open mind and some guidance from like-minded friends, anyone can experience the benefits of personal growth and reconnect to spirit for a more fulfilling and meaningful life
Here are some steps to help you get started on your journey:
Define your intention:
"Why do I feel drawn to start this journey?" Your intention may be to find peace, connect with a higher power, gain insight into who you are as a person, or find a sense of purpose. Whatever your intention may be, it can help you determine which way you may want to start. When I was little a teen I felt drawn to "weird" subjects like the paranormal, astrology, crystals, and more, but I had several friends who gave me some hard "side-eye" when I tried to bring up the subject. So I kept those things kinda hidden for a long time. I later made the decision that I wanted to explore those topics more and set the intention that I'd find some like-minded friends.
Start with mindfulness:
Mindfulness is the practice of being present, at the moment, and listening to your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Being mindful helps you become more aware of your inner world, and when you are aware of your inner world you can then create a new outer world. Start with short mindfulness practices, such as a few minutes of deep breathing, meditation, or simply listening to your thoughts without reacting to them. We all have busy lives- work, friends, home, laundry! It's ok to observe these thoughts without feeling guilt, shame, etc.
Read and learn:
Reading and learning about whatever topic you feel called to can be a great way to gain insight and inspiration on your journey. It doesn't matter where you start. Just start somewhere. There are plenty of books, blogs, podcasts, and online resources available that can help you deepen your understanding and guide you on your journey. Take what resonates and leave what doesn't. Connect with others:
Connecting with others who are also on a spiritual or similar journey can provide you with support and encouragement. Joining a community such as this one, attending workshops, or finding a mentor can be a great way to connect with like-minded individuals. There is a space of belonging for everyone, you just have to take the time to find your people. I found my community by reluctantly sharing on social media that I was into tarot, astrology, and more even though I had spent years with friends that thought that was really weird! I'm grateful I decided to do that because I wouldn't have the community I have today if I hadn't. Hopefully, you will find some amazing community for yourself here too.
Practice gratitude:
Having an attitude of gratitude is so important to your journey. It involves recognizing and appreciating the good things in your life. You know- counting your blessings, no matter how small they may be. For years I have been writing one reason that I have been grateful for. Whether it was the random stranger who said I had cool hair, a beautiful breezy summer day, or the fact that my Amazon package arrived exactly when I expected it to. Take a moment each night before bed to do the same and then at the end of the month look back at all the amazing things you can be grateful for.
Set aside time for reflection:
Reflection is an essential part of the spiritual journey. Take some time as often as you'd like to reflect on your experiences, your thoughts, and your emotions. Writing in a journal, practicing introspection, simply taking a walk in nature or even going as far as speaking with a professional therapist can all be great ways to reflect, connect with your inner self, and grow.
Starting a spiritual journey can be an incredibly rewarding and life-changing experience. Remember that this is a journey and not a race, and it is solely your journey and no one else's. Give yourself patience and be compassionate as you navigate through it.
Don't compare yourself to others.
By staying committed to your intention and providing consistent effort, you can truly see how much growth will come with that and create a meaningful and fulfilling spiritual practice that will serve you well on your journey.
